Resolution No. 142-08
RESOLUTION OF THE COMANCHE BUSINESS COMMITTEE DIRECTING THE CONSTITUTION COORDINATIOR TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS BY SUBMITTING THE SEPTEMBER CONSTITUTION DOCUMENT FOR REVIEW TO ALL COMANCHE NATION VOTERS AND THE BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS.
WHEREAS, the Comanche Nation is a federally recognized Indian tribe with a Constitution approved by the Secretary of the Interior on January 9, 1967, to safeguard tribal rights, powers, and privileges to improve the economic, moral, educational, and health status of its members; and
WHEREAS, the Comanche Constitution establishes the Comanche Business Committee as the duly elected official body designated to conduct business for and on behalf of the Comanche Nation; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Article XI of the Constitution of the Comanche Nation (as amended), the Comanche Business Committee is empowered to propose amendments to the Constitution subject to approval by tribal members voting in an election conducted pursuant to 25 C.F.R., Part 81; and
WHEREAS, the Comanche Business Committee deems it important to provide the September 2008 constitution document to all voting tribal members for their review prior to an election to approve or disapprove the proposed document and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Comanche Business Committee hereby directs the Constitution Coordinator Mr. Dennis Chappabitty to provide the September 2008 amended Constitution document to all Comanche Nation voters for a forty five (45) day review, and concurrently to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Anadarko Agency for their review and once these actions are completed the Comanche Business Committee will seek an election conducted pursuant to 25 C.F.R. part 81
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Comanche Business Committee encourages all tribal members to take the time to review the amended Constitution as it is designed to provide a governmental system responsive to the future of the Comanche Nation.
CERTIFICATION
The foregoing resolution was adopted at a regular meeting of the Comanche Business Committee held on the 6th day of September, 2008 at the Comanche Tribal Complex, north of Lawton Oklahoma, by a majority vote of 6 for, 0 against, 1 abstaining, a quorum being present.
